New Zealand Sub AntarcticKathy, with husband Tony, spent 13 days voyaging around the Snares, Campbell, Auckland, Antipodes and Bounty Islands in December 2021 with Heritage Expeditions, recording the astonishing fauna, flora and landscapes to produce a unique collection of prints. Not only was the subject matter so inspiring and vast but it also led to a new experimental approach for Kathy in her artmaking. This series includes a variety of printmaking techniques, often combined in Hybrid prints, to evoke the Southern Ocean, the lonely, but raucously inhabited islands, the great albatross and colourful megaherbs. Some subjects are etched in meticulous detail, while others are suggested in gestural monoprints and collagraphs.
